The advantage of Airbnbs over old-school safe houses is that they're single-use, so no pattern established. You can convert any room to an interrogation suite.

The disadvantage is that there is a money and IT data trail.

Those can be kicked over or redirected to point to somebody else, with varying degrees of skill.

Sometimes all you want is to create FUD, so you don't try all that hard—just hard enough that it's clear an effort was made, so the person following that trail can't be sure who's responsible.

Guess you're right. It's also like hiding in the crowd, plus a person can conveniently and quickly be moved to another location.

“She's very important to me.” Ay! Finally she admits. Villanelle is evolving.

Thanks Luke , really loving the rollercoaster 🎢 ride you are taking us on (overexcited) . She’s very important to me.....god help anyone who gets in Villanelles way while she is trying to find her way to Eve , it also seems she is learning a lot about herself & her emotions. Love reading the way things are unraveling in Villanelles mind, the way you articulate her thought process/emotions through your writing is really beautiful raw and full of power 🔥👏👏👏 no wonder you had us all hooked on your books from day 1! You’re a mastermind!

The plot thickens!! Can't wait to see how Villanelle stays out from under their thumbs and turns the tables AND gets back her girl!!

(Side note - I had wanted to avoid substack because of their platforming Nazis but alas! The draw of a Codename Villanelle sequel was too strong. I'll happily follow you to any platform if you move off! )

I hadn't even heard of Substack before reading Killing Eve here. They host Nazis? What the...?

Expand full comment

Ah, I think the internet outrage about it has died down a little, as everyone has moved on, so things go. but basically some substack writers were upset that Substack refused to deplatform pages that hosted Nazi content. Some opted to vote with their content and took their business elsewhere.

Thank you for your comment to ask, because it was your notification that reminded me I had yet to finish reading the last chapter of Killing Eve Resurrection (now fixed)! Can you imagine! Forgetting to go back to the final chapter!!!! ( I started the email yesterday and the day got so busy it just got away from me!)

Thanks. Will have to look into that before considering posting my own stuff here. And: the final chapter was beautiful, wasn't it?

I love how Villanelle made it clear that Eve is very important to her. Villanelle will see this through because she needs to get Eve back. Very intriguing story. I love the way Luke Jennings writes. He keeps us in suspense, as usual!

I spend a lot of time listening to news following the election, but for a few minutes every week I am lost once again in the world of Villanelle and Eve and there's no place I'd rather be.

Would love to know how the safe house is listed on Airbnb: highly secure, clean interrogation suite, good rates for the intelligence services?

Gets better and better 🙂

I read the books first before the tv show and then I realized there was a TV show last year and was excited to watch it and i do like both books and tv show i love Villanelle on both but i was so surprised how different from the books the tv show was and a bit disappointed as i was looking forward to seeing a lot of scenes form the books on the tv show I like the ending of the third book the best and that Villanelle doesnt die even though i was scared at first that she did die. I hate the ending of the TV show I am loving the new story I am excited to read the rest. I am autistic and a fan of Villanelle. she is my fave character.

Excellent. I agree with Haylo about Oksana's admission in this scene.
