Villanelle is so adept at avoiding the CCTV cameras and then finding the arteries that gush blood. Love it when she tells Ron Tiberius that she is every girl he has abused. A fond farewell to a monster. Go Villanelle! Now all Villanelle has to do (IMO) is eventually take out the other monster, Balice the bitch. Thanks Luke!

What makes it difficult to condemn Villanelle is that most of her "victims" are monsters without conscience usually so rich or in such high positions that they stand outside the legal system. She is that angel of revenge.

I've been waiting to sink my teeth into a kill, so thank you for scratching that itch! Now, what secrets are hiding between Balice and Tiberius? I didn't want this installment to end!!!

Luke, you rock!!🥰

Balice... What is going with you and Tiberius... How are you going to get yourself out of Villanelle's crosshairs now??! Death warrant signed and delivered :(

Thanks Luke. Another interesting twist. Can it be that Balice has done her own double cross on Villanelle? Or on the British intelligence service to cover up some shenanigans she was involved with Tiberius? Counting down until next week.

What a chapter my friends! what a chapter! I'm out of breath until now, and what's worse, I'm scared for Villanelle. From the beginning I was more worried about Balice, because she tried to dodge when Villanelle wanted to talk about the plan step by step. Suddenly, Balice demanded that the girl not be there at the time, leaving Villanelle alone, ok. It's great that she didn't let herself be filmed by the cameras and even more beautiful when she struck him in the leg. "Who are you? I am every girl you abused." What was this? too perfect. But then, when Tibério says Balice's name, I got goosebumps right away! I really felt butterflies in my stomach!! Now I'm scared for her! Is it all a big setup by Balice for Villanelle? I don't know what to think... I think so many bad things are coming... I feel trapped with Villanelle in that room, just her and Tibério dead and the feeling of betrayal hanging in the air... what will come next? waiting until next week will be the end Luke... anxiety in full swing.

Bien vu, ceci explique cela. Dans le chapitre 18 j'ai beaucoup aimé l'allusion à la princesse de Galles et à la retouche Photoshop. Tu colles bien à l'actualité bravo.

I’m enjoying the read as chapter installments! Back in the day, Stephen King released the Green Mile as a serial. I faithfully got each of the six short novels as they came out. It’s a great way to build interest and suspense. I’m just curious, Mr. Jennings, if you are still writing Resurrection or have you completed the story? Thank you for providing this story for all the fans.

Hey Tina, glad you're enjoying! I'm writing KE:R for you each week (but I know where we're going) L

Luke, First - some housekeeping. If you move the subscribe button to the bottom of each post, there is less chance that a reader will click away before finishing the post and every chance for established readers to consume the entire post. Second - Bravo for these scintillating installments. 🙏🏼

Hi Barry, thank you! But a question: why would the subscribe button make a reader click away from the post? And why would an established reader be less able or likely to finish the post if there's a subscribe button?

Expand full comment

Luke - Any time we break up the visual narrative, there is an opportunity for a loss of reading momentum... the loss of consumption on the part of the reader. Since everything we do as writers is concerned with consumption of our narratives/prose from beginning to end, a break in the momentum is a subconscious signal to the brain to stop reading.

From a visual perspective (Medium stories are prime example), our narratives flow when a story/post/chapter is unbroken, just as in a novel. The risk is greatest for first-time readers. For established readers, admittedly, the risk is less. However, each time I read a KE:R post, I am slightly annoyed that my near effortless imbibing of your liquid prose is interrupted by the subscribe button and its supporting blurb. To keep the metaphor going, I choke a little. 🙄

Substack doesn't do us any favors by automatically inserting these mid-post by default. Some food for thought, Luke. Nothing more.

(You might check out Sarah Fay's https://www.writersatwork.net/ here on Substack - she gets into the details of this more efficiently than me.)

OK, I hear you. Thanks Barry. I guess as a former journalist I'm so used to seeing my writing wrapped around pics, ads etc... Will rethink!
