I believe she is truly learning what (that) things are important to her, but loving Eve and learning to love her properly also makes her vulnerable, which she is famously not good at. As for the disarray that is Balice? I’m putting her on a mental time out before I try to process all that. Chaos gremlin!
What the everloving fuck does Balice think she's doing? I can think of at least a half-dozen ways this is a trap—from Johnny sending Bili to marry Balice to cut her loose from the protection of her husband Charlie over at MI5; to Bili using her feminine wiles on her own to get Balice to spill the tea on what she's up to; to Bili simply using marriage to Balice to get her ILR (the British version of a Green Card)....
Each and any one of these should have Balice's Spidey-Sense blaring alarms at her. Even if she intends to fake her marriage to Bili it'll be a huge mess, and I can't imagine MI6 (007 movies aside) being fans of messes. I can't imagine she'll tell Charlie, "I'm pretending to divorce you and marrying Bili to flip her—so hold tight, darling, and it'll all be great!"
And...doesn't Balice have a boss somewhere? To make a fake marriage look legit she'll need papers that appear realistic, and that will require somebody to sign off on them, I would think.
Mr. Jennings, do you ever have a sense that Villanelle, Eve, Balice and other characters live their own lives when you write about them? Can they surprise you or do you have a clear idea where they are going with their plans?
Oh boy, I have a somewhat bad feeling about this Bili/Balice encounter, but really no offense to Bili’s desperate willingness to be married and get a British citizenship, I mean who among Eastern Europeans wouldn’t? 😅

And yes, the lemon peel stinks a bit... I hope Bili is not planning to break Balice's heart. She's just started her transformation from a flat villain to an exiting character full of complexity and contradictions.
I love their dialog. For once, they are not pretending to be anything (or seems like that) - Bili wants her UK passport, MI6 pension plan, also Balice to be happy with her. Probably all equally at this point. It's just a bit.. hm... strange indeed... Bili knows who Balice's husband is fucking, Mrs. Polastri's name and role in this game. Sounds like a lot of information for a one-time freelance project.
I understand that Balice was Bili's one-time undercover operation. I called it a freelance project because she wasn't 'officially' hired by Johnny. Bili doesn't even know who exactly they are. At least that's what we know so far.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's not what I wrote. There's nothing in Ep 10 to suggest that Bili and Johnny don't have an official working arrangement. Bili was briefed for the entrapment and knows exactly who her target was, and who Villanelle and Eve are. In a public place like Johnny's club, though, she's not actually going to say any names. If I've given a contradictory
impression, and I might have, tell me where! As a writer it's all too easy to contradict yourself when writing in this episodic form, with the story developing as we go along, so grateful for this sort of heads-up - L
I can't really think of any obvious contradictions here. Probably, it had a lot to do with my personal assumption that led to this conclusion. Bili told Balice that she just wanted her citizenship and British Intelligence/The Twelve offered it as a form of payment. So it could be a temporary project for Bili in a sense that she has no reasons to keep working for Johnny (if she doesn't want to) after getting her passport.
I get you. Perhaps I should make it clearer that Bili gets drawn in to Johnny's world and that he increasingly confides in her, while witholding the passport. Thanks Gemma!
